slow cooker applesauce

Homemade apple sauce doesn't get easier than using your slow cooker! This simple crock pot recipe is the perfect way to use up Autumn's abundance of apples.

Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 8 apples medium (Use a combination of Golden Delicious, Honey Crisp, Fuji, Gala, etc.)
  • 1 strip lemon peel use a vegetable peeler
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 stick cinnamon 3 inch
  • 5 teaspoons light brown sugar unpacked (can leave out for sugar-free)

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  2. Place them in the slow cooker.
  3. Add the cinnamon stick, lemon peel, lemon juice and brown sugar.
  4. Set crock pot to low and cook for 6 hours.
  5. Stir apples occasionally, apples will slowly become a delicious applesauce.
  6. Remove cinnamon stick and use an immersion blender to blend until smooth or if you prefer a chunky sauce, leave sauce intact.

Notes

This homemade applesauce is naturally gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, vegan and can be sugar-free if you omit the brown sugar. Enjoy as a healthy snack or side dish!
