  • 18.3 ounces boxed fudge brownie mix mixed according to box instructions
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter melted and cooled slightly
  • 0.5 cups light brown sugar packed
  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 large egg yolk room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1.33 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F. Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly spray with non-stick spray. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, add the brownie mix, eggs, water, vegetable oil, and stir to combine according to package directions.
  3. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Set aside.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat melted butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fully combined.
  5. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  6. Add flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt to the wet mixture. Mix on low speed until no dry streaks remain.
  7. Fold in chocolate chips evenly into the cookie batter.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie layer and gently spread to cover most of the surface.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes covered with aluminum foil, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and set.
  10. Cool completely before lifting out and slicing into bars.
